Before starting, it would be best to review a few design concepts that will come up when discussing design plans. A work triangle is a triangular space marked by the stovetop, the refrigerator and the sink at its corners. The purpose of the work triangle is to allow for more efficiency during the cooking process. The three mentioned appliances are the most used when cooking so a more compact arrangement saves time. In larger kitchens where there is generally more than one cook, the more proper term is a workstation where each station revolves around one appliance.
A Kitchen Floor Plan Design can be one of the following plans:
The L-Shape Plan is the most common among the five plans. In this arrangement, two key appliances are placed on one side while the third is placed on an adjacent side. Putting the appliances closer to where the two sides meet maximizes the space available but it’s important to also have enough space in between the appliances where the cook can work.
Unlike with the low cost L-Shape kitchen floor plan design, placing the key appliances close together is not recommended in the U-Shape Plan, since it tends to confine the cook to just one area. Ideally, one appliance is placed on each side of the U. And although it is efficient and allows for much storage space, the design itself needs a lot of space.
With the inexpensive Galley Plan, the workstations are placed on opposite walls. Ideally, the stove and sink are located on one side while the refrigerator is placed on the other. This design is more commonly used in apartments since it is space-efficient.
The Island Plan consists of placing an island within another best price kitchen floor plan design. This allows extra cooking, cleaning or entertaining space. If the kitchen is large, having an island can make it easier and faster to cook. However, this arrangement may not be suitable in smaller kitchens, unless you consider using a portable island.
The One-Wall Plan, on the other hand, consists of the workstations on one side of the room only. If you have a narrow kitchen, this may be a practical set-up but it is not as functional as the other plans. With this kind of plan, it is ideal to put the sink in the middle of the refrigerator and the stove.
In choosing a kitchen floor plan design, you should take note of several things. First of all, the size of the kitchen since certain plans work better for smaller or bigger kitchens. Second, consider the number of cooks who will use the affordable kitchen. Other things to consider is if you will be entertaining guests in the kitchen, the amount of foot traffic the kitchen will get, as well as the location of the kitchen in relation with the other rooms.
